Are you seeking to enhance your career? Whether you are looking to borrow books on resumes and cover letters or access to computers to apply for jobs online, Queen Anne’s County Library has free resources that can help you.

Getting Started

Free One-on-One Computer Help – Get computer help from a library staff member. Just call our Centreville branch at 410-758-0980 or our Kent Island Branch at 410-643-8161 to set up an appointment.

Free Resources – Each branch has computers and reference items to help with your job search.  You may use the computer for three hours per day.  There are also books on resumes, cover letters, and other career resource books available to borrow from the library.

Adult Learning Center – Whether you are going back to school, switching jobs, or just want to brush up on an academic skill, our adult learning center is here to help.  Our live coaches will help you write a winning resume, learn Microsoft Office, pass the GED, and more.

CareerOneStop – Wage and Salary Information – Explore occupational interests and match them with career paths.

Maryland’s One Stop Career Center – Provides a variety of employment and workforce services for all job-seeking customers.

Occupational Handbook Online – Find educational requirements, earnings, working conditions, and hiring outlooks for a full range of job types.

Cover Letter, Resume, and Preparing for an Interview Help

CareerOneStop Resume Guide – Instructs readers in the best practices for creating or updating a resume.

Live Resume Help – Get one-on-one help with your resume, tips on starting a job search, and more. Live coaches are there to help.  Just click on “Write a Winning Resume” to get started.

Maryland Workforce Exchange – Allows you to create a resume once you register with the site.

Job Search

Employers generally advertise job openings in three ways: individual company websites, industry trade websites and listservs, and local and national job websites.

Here are some examples of job websites:

AARP Job Search – For people over 50.

Maryland Workforce Exchange – Search for jobs in Maryland.

USAJOBS – Search for U.S. government jobs using the official job site of the United States federal government.

Department of Veteran Affairs – Resources for Job Seekers and Employers

If you are interested in jobs in Queen Anne’s County, the best place to look is the county government’s Human Resources website.

Each library also has a binder of current job openings for the upper shore of Maryland as provided by the Maryland Workforce Exchange.

Unemployment Benefits

DLLR’s Division of Unemployment Insurance – Unemployment insurance provides benefits to persons who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are ready, willing, and able to work, and are actively seeking work.  File an unemployment insurance claim online.
