Notary Public
Notary public services are available by appointment only.
Please call ahead to confirm a notary is available:
Kent Island Branch: 410-643-8161
Centreville Branch: 410-758-0980
The Library's free notary service is intended for simple documents.
In accordance with Maryland's notary guidelines, please ensure at the time of the appointment that EACH individual requiring a notarized signature on a document:
- is present in person,
- presents a current (non-expired) government-issued photo identification, not a digital or printed copy. If your current government-issued identification does not reflect your legal name, government issued documentation of a legal name change is required,
- brings ALL pages UNSIGNED (signatures must be witnessed by the notary) of the document for which they are seeking to have their signature notarized,
- fully understands the contents and implications of the document they are signing--the notary is not able to draft nor revise documents nor to provide legal or financial advice,
- If a witness is required for the document’s signature, please ensure you bring the correct number of witnesses with proper identification to serve in that role. The Library will not allow employees or customers in the Library to be solicited to serve as witness.
The Library notary may at their sole discretion decline to provide services.
In the event that a notary is not available, a list of local notary services can be provided by the Library. If preferred, click the following link to find a Remote Online notary: https://sos.maryland.gov/Documents/ListAuthorizedRONVendors.pdf
