3D Printer Policy

1. The 3D printer may be used for lawful purposes only. Customers will not be permitted to use the printer to create objects that are:

• Prohibited by local, state or federal law.

• Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or that may pose an immediate threat to the well-being of others; for example, guns, knives or other possibly lethal weapons.

• Obscene or otherwise inappropriate items for the library environment.

2. The Queen Anne’s County Public Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.

3. Small part 3D printing tangential to library programming, educational and hobbyist purposes can be conducted at no cost. For projects in excess of 20 grams or for prints for explicitly commercial purposes a fee will be assessed. This fee varies based on material costs and print settings and will be calculated by the printing software at the time of print. This fee may be waived at the discretion of the staff.

• Customers printing for commercial purposes or prints weighing over 20 grams may have objects printed on the 3D printers at a cost of $0.25 per gram of object weight.

4. Only library staff will directly operate the 3D printer.

5. By submitting a 3D print request, the customer warrants that he holds all intellectual property rights to the source file and the object being printed. The customer shall defend, indemnify and hold the Library and its employees harmless from any and all claims, injuries, damages, losses or suits including attorney fees, arising out of or in connection with the existence or use of any object printed with the Library’s 3D printer service.

6. The Library is not responsible for the functionality or quality of objects produced on the 3D printer.

7. Upon submittal of print request, staff will print item within 7 business days, Mon – Fri, unless otherwise notified.

8. Items printed from the 3D printers that are not picked up within 14 days will become the property of the Library.

9. Supervision of the use of the 3D printer by library staff does not constitute knowledge or acknowledgment of any unapparent final use of the 3D product and the library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.

10. The Library reserves the right to use the 3D printing service for demonstrations, classes and programs, during which they will be temporarily unavailable to the public.

11. One printing project per person per time, limited to two files. Files must be part of the same object.

Disclaimer: The Library is not responsible for any object created with use of the 3D printer, including any harm or injury incurred as a result of any usage of the 3D printer or the object printed.
